Bibi Ka Maqbara, located in Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Maharashtra, is a magnificent mausoleum built in the late 17th century. Often called the “Taj Mahal of the Deccan,” it bears a striking resemblance to the world-famous Taj Mahal in Agra.
It was commissioned by Prince Azam Shah, son of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, in memory of his beloved mother Dilras Banu Begum. The monument was constructed between 1668 and 1678 AD, showcasing the elegant Mughal architecture that combines white marble and basalt stone.
Bibi Ka Maqbara stands on a raised platform surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens laid out in the charbagh (four-part) style. At its heart lies the white marble mausoleum, whose dome, minarets, and intricate carvings reflect the grace and grandeur of Mughal craftsmanship. The design was led by Ata-ullah, son of Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, the chief architect of the Taj Mahal.
